4th Annual Black & White Bull Sale
Auctioneer Chad “Cracker” Johnson welcomed a capacity crowd to the 4th Annual Black & White Bull Sale on December 4, 2009 at the Montgomery Stockyards in Montgomery, AL. The buyers appreciated the large selection of two year old bulls. When the sale was complete, a total of 122 bulls averaged $2,343. In addition, 285 lots of commercial females were sold.
The Chi-Angus bulls were provided by Chuck and Katie Madaris of Hope Hull, AL. Their 21 bulls averaged $3,033. Top sellers of the day were also the high sellers for the Chi-Angus. Lot 305 sold for $3,800 to Jay Hatcher of Greensboro, AL. This October 2007 son of CK Pathfinder boasted a -1.9 BW EPD and a 43.6 WW EPD. Lot 311, a November 2007 son of CK Venture Forward boasted a 118 Yearling Weight Ratio and a 111 YW EPD. This high growth bull was selected by Dylon Oliver of New Site, AL for $3,800. Jay Hatcher also selected lot 308 for $3,700. Lot 317 was chosen by Billy McCurdy of Lowndesboro, AL for $3,700.
Meadows Creek Farm of Columbia, AL consigned 27 Charolais bulls. High seller was lot 122 that sold to Summerford Cattle of Ashford, AL for $3,000. This February 2008 son of Thomas Mr. Oahe Wind boasted a YW EPD that was in the top 1% of the Charolais breed and a WW EPD in the top 3%. He also turned heads with an 85 lb. birth weight and an 878 lb. weaning weight. Lot 113 sold to Herman Curry Farms of Midland City, AL for $2,750. This halter broke bull had been a successful 4-H project for William Morgan of Dozier, AL.
Mike & Denise Henry of Pintlala Cattle Company in Hope Hull, AL sold 74 Angus bulls for an average of $2,166. Lot 205 commanded a high bid of $2,800 from Triple A Farms of Chipley, FL. This November 2007 son of MYTTY In Focus had been used on heifers in the Pintlala herd. Lot 206 also brought $2,800. This November 2007 son of Ironwood New Level was selected by Perdido River Farm of Atmore, AL.
Volume bull buyers were Perdido River Farm, Billy McCurdy, Kaiser Farm of Elberta, AL and H3 Cattle of Hope Hull. Volume female buyers were Perdido River Farm and Gordon Planting Company of Gordon, AL.
Cattle buyers were from the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Arkansas.
